During laser tattoo removal, the ink particles are exposed to extremely brief (nanosecond) bursts of extremely high-energy light. The ink particles absorb this light successfully, but since it is such a big quantity of energy in such a short period of time, they are unable to expel it quickly enough, and instead’shatters’ the ink. The ink pieces are then tiny enough to be eliminated by the body’s own white blood cells and lymphatic system, simulating the natural fading caused by time or sun exposure. The tattoo fades over time and with repeated treatments until the skin is clean. Even without further treatment, the tattoo will fade as your body continues to break down the particles.
